It is no longer argumentative to say that one of the major elements of the New World Order agenda is to have a global cashless society control grid, which is based not on a paper currency, but rather on credit and digital numbers loaded into a central global computer.

• Britain becomes 'never, never land' as personal debt runs out of control: UK borrowers account for one third of unsecured debt in western Europe / On average, a Briton has twice the debt of a European / Total consumer debt in the UK is at a record £1.3 trillion / New debt last year came to an unprecedented £215bn / Citizens Advice faced 1.25 million new debt cases last year - the figure is rising - Britain's "buy now, pay later" consumer culture has led to unprecedented levels of personal debt. The average Briton now has more than twice as much unsecured borrowing - including overdrafts, personal loans and credit card debt - as the typical European, according to a report published by Datamonitor. 

• Wave and Pay With a Wireless Credit Card: Blink and Your Money's Spent - What do you pull out of your wallet when you reach the sales register at a retail store? Using cash can be quick — if you have enough bills for pricey purchases. Credit cards can be convenient, but slow since you have to wait for the bank's authorization. And you'll have to keep track of all those charge slips to prevent identity theft. But on Thursday, Chase announced a new payment system called "blink" that the company believes could offer the speed of paper with the convenience of plastic.

• Biometric sensors let fingerprints do the talking - Pay for the groceries, lock the house, start the car, check in at a doctor's office or log on to a laptop. There's so much the swipe of a fingertip can do. An evolving digital tool, biometric-fingerprint technology holds the promise of replacing or lessening reliance on everyday necessities such as credit cards, key chains and passwords. It even helps registered travelers get through security at Orlando International Airport. An evangelist of biometrics, Scott Moody is CEO of AuthenTec, a company that produces sensors that can read a fingerprint. "Looking ahead, I think the use of this technology could become ubiquitous," he said. "It would just be taken for granted as part of the everyday world."

• Pensioner refuses PIN - and is told to bank elsewhere - A LINTON man who has held a bank account with the HSBC since his first birthday has been told that he should take his business elsewhere. Philip Rawson, 69, has been told that because he does not want to use cards with a personal identification number (PIN), the HBSC will no longer be able to offer accounts to him.

• Fingerprint replaces card and cash - Students now have easy access to off-campus meals with the touch of a finger. Whitworth College has recently installed the IMYE system, which allows students, faculty and staff to buy meals on- and off-campus, without cash or student ID card.

• Payment is at the tips of one's fingers - For more than 2.3 million US consumers, charging retail purchases to a bank account or a credit card is as simple as swiping their finger across a scanner. Now accessible in more than 2000 retail locations, payment by finger-scan technology is spreading. And whether paying by cash, cheque, debit or credit card, most Americans believe that their finger is a more secure way to pay, because it is a difficult form of identification to forge or steal. In a country such as SA, where theft and security concerns run high, the ability to go shopping and leave the credit cards and cash at home may present a compelling case for the adoption of this technology by consumers.

• RFID Changing Buying Behavior: MasterCard says RFID-enabled payment cards are leading to significant changes at the cash register, while a Visa survey finds cell phones are a promising payment form factor - In its efforts to promote an increasingly cashless society, MasterCard is finding RFID a helpful tool. The credit card organization says that adding RFID tags to credit and debit MasterCard cards has led to increased usage of its cards over cash. It has also resulted in an increase in the amount of MasterCard transactions at some of the 32,000 retail locations now equipped to read the cards' RFID tags. Sheetz, a convenience-store chain that accepts RFID-enabled card payments, says customers using RFID cards transact their purchases an average of 8 seconds more quickly than those who do not use the cards.

• Anger over dabs plan for pupils: AN MEP has slammed local education authorities for fingerprinting children using new ID technology to be introduced in September - Derek Clark, the UK Indepedence Party MEP for the East Midlands, is to write to all education authorities in the region about the fingerprinting of school children of all ages - most of which he fears is being done without parental consent. Mr Clark said: "We really have reached a pitiful level in this country when we are fingerprinting children at primary schools and keeping it from their parents. "It has been brought to my attention that this practice is going on all over the country, with some 27 or more schools in the East Midlands known to have fingerprinted their pupils. "I want to know why this is being done, how widespread it is and whether it is being carried out at the behest of of the local education authority. "Most important of all, I want to know if schools are seeking the consent of parents before carrying out such actions." Kirk Hallam Community Technology College is set to install a cashless system this September where pupils will scan their fingerprints at the checkout to pay for their meals.

• Credit Cards That Don't Swipe

• RBS trials contactless RFID-style debit cards: 1,000-staff pilot in retail outlets at bank's Edinburgh HQ - The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and MasterCard are to trial an RFID-based contactless debit card to replace cash for low-value payments. The trial of the Oyster Card-style payment system begins next week at RBS' head office campus in Edinburgh, which contains a number of retail outlets for its 3,000 staff based there. The retail stores taking part include Starbucks and Tesco Express. The bank said 1,000 staff have so far applied for one of the specially adapted Maestro chip and PIN debit cards.

• Citibank's RFID PayPass credit card - Dan Costa over at Gearlog was recently sent a new type of credit card by his bank. The new MasterCard PayPass is an RFID token that uses radio frequency keys to authorize purchases. The basic principle is very similar to the speed passes currently in use at gas stations, toll booths, and subway stations all over the country. Dr. Costa did a very nice write up on the potential pitfalls and inherent security features embedded into the payment medium, but he missed one bit of very important information. Hackers have already managed to solve the problem of trying to read a chip from within two inches, and rumor has it that there are breathtaking hacks regarding RFID capture and spoofing being released at this year's Defcon conference.

• Public worried by online ID theft - Concerns about identity theft are beginning to put people off shopping and banking online. In a survey commissioned by software firm Intervoice, 17% of people said they had stopped banking online while 13% had abandoned web shopping. Technologies such as online check-out services and credit card readers were pinpointed as potential ID risks.

• THE LAST DAYS OF PRIVACY: As technology makes life richer and easier, we leave a trail of information that is susceptible to prying eyes - Within the next four months, a major Bay Area supermarket chain plans to introduce a payment system that uses biometric fingerprint authentication to verify customers' identities. Under this system, shoppers in checkout lines won't need to use cash, checks, debit cards or credit cards. Instead, they can place their fingers on scanners that read fingerprints, and once the device links to their bank or credit card accounts, they can buy groceries, get cash back and do everything else shoppers do.

• 3G Mobile Phone Allows “Chip and Pin” Payments - Mobile phones will be able to operate “chip and pin” transactions from any location, be it a taxi, or a car boot sale, using secure “two factor authentication”. The same technology can be applied across Internet payments, providing a further diverse network and safeguard against identity theft. “This patent grant fundamentally reinforces the work we have done over the last few years and with it we intend to change the mobile commerce paradigm by changing the way the world moves money – securely and in a non repudiatable way” said Keith Benson, Founder and Executive Chairman.

• Cashless society gets a step closer - Businesses that process customer payments at point of sale are discovering there is a wider range of payment technologies and services available to them. Along with the ubiquitous cash register and lone Eftpos terminal, Eftpos terminals able to accept new types of payment cards are being rolled out, as are IP PC systems that can be used at point of sale to process sales transactions without the need for an Eftpos terminal. As for mobile payment systems, Ian Bailey, managing director for Eftpos terminal distributor Cadmus, says it's not only taxis and fast food delivery firms using mobile Eftpos to process payments wirelessly. He says public transport companies, taxi companies and seminar and market day retailers also use mobile Eftpos, and the speed and reliability of both Telecom and Vodafone mobile data networks are suitable for the wireless transactions as Eftpos only sends a small amount of data each time.

• Here comes the cashless society - From coffee to cars, chewing gum to gumboots, New Zealanders are eftpos-ing everything, and rapidly moving the country toward a cashless society. Paymark Eftpos yesterday released figures showing more than 5 billion electronic transactions have been carried out since the system was introduced in 1989. These days an impressive - or possibly frightening - 2 million electronic transactions are carried out daily. "There's a hell of a lot of it going on, and Kiwis just love it," says Paymark Eftpos chief executive Simon Tong. New Zealand now has an eftpos terminal for every 50 people. "For electronic transactions, we would be number one in the world for transactions per capita."

• Westminster launches Pay by Phone Parking - Motorists will be able to pay for their parking from their mobile phone in a new service launched by Westminster City Council. This service means motorists will no longer need to carry around bagfuls of change to pay for their parking as now they can now make a simple telephone call or text, from the comfort and safety of their vehicle, to pay for their parking on the street. Also, once they have parked, if they find themselves stuck in a meeting or delayed they can top up their parking fee remotely (up to the maximum time allowed) without having to return to their vehicle.

• US government wants PayPal records - The US government has ordered online auctioneer eBay's payment service PayPal to turn over records that could expose foreign accounts where tax cheats have hidden money, PayPal said last night. The US Internal Revenue Service wants the company to reveal the details of accounts linked to banks or credit cards in 35 countries. A summons issued by US District Court Judge James Ware in San Jose ordered PayPal to hand over records dating back to 1999, when the Internet money-transfer service was launched.

• Disabled drivers fear fuel chaos: Disabled motorists who are unable to pay for their petrol at forecourt shops risk being left without fuel, according to the Disabled Drivers' Association (DDA) - Until now, anyone requiring assistance to use filling stations has been able to give their credit or debit card to a member of staff who then returns with a slip for the customer to sign. But the DDA says many drivers have been told that they are unable to pay using a bank card now that the responsibility for fraudulent transactions has shifted to the retailer with the introduction of the new chip and pin system.

A cashless society would mean total control over everyone as people would be forced to pay for everything electronically.
